Will
I have credit after filing?
A.
The filing of a Chapter 13 will be reflected on your
credit report. And it may make it more difficult for a time to
obtain credit from some lenders. After all, it is always up to
the lender to decide if he wants to lend you money. One
reason why the creditors are cautious is because by filing a
Chapter 13 and receiving the courts protection you are
pledging all your income toward the plan. You,
therefore, usually have no disposable income during the term
of the Chapter 13 plan. Certain lenders may indeed refuse
loans to persons who have filed Chapter 13 proceedings, just
as they may refuse to grant them loans because of their debt
problems. The filing of a Chapter 7, however, actually
improves your credit since you will probably have disposable
income after the chapter 7 bankruptcy. Your debt ratio
improves after a chapter 7 bankruptcy but not necessarily
after a Chapter 13.
